LOOKING CLOSER

A shirt is in the details.

Start at the collar. Follow a stripe. Notice what makes a shirt feel unmistakably itself.

01

Start with the silhouette

Before reading a badge or a name, look at the outline. A collar, a sleeve and the way panels meet can change the whole character of a shirt. Compare two archive references side by side and notice which detail your eye reaches first.

02

Follow the colour

Look at the balance between the main colour and its accents. A thin line at the cuff may connect to the collar; a small panel may interrupt a much larger field. Try describing the layout before naming the team.

03

Keep the reference in view

A detail photograph and a match photograph tell different stories. One invites a closer look at texture; the other places the shirt in the game. Use the archive labels as a starting point, and let the available reference guide the conversation.
